A cramped, simple room with a bed, gear chest, and a table and chair.

The faces were screaming at him, piling themselves one over the other in an effort to barricade him from one room to the next and trap him here on the pile of furs. But he could see a golden light through a slight crack in the faces, and he stubbornly pushed their gaping mouths aside. "Damn, where'd my sword go?" he looked around till he saw the pair of arms rise from the floor and hand it to him: a marvelous black thing with a silver edged blade. "Ah, there it is," he said, snatching it up and sheathing it at his side. The sheath swallowed it up and vanished too, but he could still feel its weight at his side. With a sigh, Stabat Mater addressed the tall mirror that warped and wavered within the mounds of screaming faces. Hundreds of eyes stared back at him from a mass of green scales and two, scaly arms. He huffed and adjusted the belt he wore over his tunic. In a flash there was a stone room. He thought he saw someone in a sheet of glass. But then it was gone. "Hello?" he called out, looking around. But the screaming faces prevented any reply from being heard. With another sigh, he pulled them apart and threw them aside and continued on into the belly of a massive snake: thousands of massive ribs winding about with dark red flesh in between them, holding them together. He headed off down the corridor muttering to himself. At least the screaming had stopped. "Now... where would the princes be? Or my other guards for that matter? The Provost Gaurd cannot just sit idle. I do hope they've all been about their business."

Lia came in just in time to catch Stabat's words. For a split second she thought that he was talking to her; though she shook that thought out of her mind quickly. She had just arrived; there was no way Stabat would be speaking to her. "The princes are at the training grounds at the moment, though Prince Feng would soon be on his way to meet a Valaire lord, to answer your first question. I trained a bit with Prince Edmund there." she replied, more of a way of announcing her presence to him.

The sound of a voice drew him from his reflections and he turned about in the tunnel to see Lia, or rather his own representation of her. It had no mouth or eyes, rather a smooth white face with twin slits where a nose ought to be, and the words she spoke seemed to appear in his mind. He assumed she was telepathic. "Oh, very good. I had heard something of a meeting with Valaire sometime ago, was that really with Prince Feng? Must have slipped my mind." He frowned, blinking slowly as he tried to recall anything else he may have forgotten. "What is on your agenda for today?" he asked her.

"For now, I'm just switching between patrolling and training continuously. It may change, though." Lia said with a curt nod to herself, as if assuring herself. "How about you?" she asked in return out of politeness.

"Probably organizing security details for the coming meeting," he said. "We'll all have to work twice as hard when the Valaire arrive." Not that we aren't pushed around enough already. He wondered vaguely if he ought to report to the Highnesses. Surely they would send for him if they needed him personally. "I had best get on to a station then. Unless you would care to come with me?"

Lia made a quick calculation in her head. Her next patrol wouldn't be until a few hours later, and judging by what she had suggested to Edmund before she had left the training grounds, she did not want to return and risk bumping into him there. "Gladly." she replied, though there wasn't any emotion on her face as she said that. "Lead the way, then."

He nodded, "right," he said, and he headed off down the living tunnel. Hopefully there would be no more screaming walls when he rounded the corner.

Lia followed him down, casting one last glance towards the barracks before she slipped out. Somehow she felt a bit uneasy, but couldn't quite pinpoint what was wrong around her.
