LIGHTY Edmund practically flew down one of the local trails by Aerevar Lake. on Avlado's back. The stallion raced as if he could join the wind that urged him on. Edmund wasn't prepared for hours outside the castle but he wasn't bothered by it. He could catch a fish and make a fire. The prince decided to set up a fire across the lake and so he and Avlado cantered down the shore line. Edmund's boots were splattered with water by the time the rider and his horse reached their destinations and both were ready for a rest.
LIGHTY Edmund slipped off his horse's back and tossed his pack against a nearby rock. He tied Avlado's reins to a tree branch near a nice patch of grass so the horse would be comfortable. Edmund slumped down next to his pack. The second prince didn't often indulge in self-pity, but now he couldn't help the bitter thoughts. It wasn't that he hated Feng and Raven. Their power unnerved him. Reading thoughts.. it was something that Edmund never got used to. Thoughts were meant to be private and nothing was private when Feng and Raven were around. Edmund had to admit though that their power was perfect for Feng. A king who could read the minds of anyone. Feng would always know who was trustworthy and who wasn't. And Edmund was slighted. He would never be general. He would never have the lead position in the army. So what was he good for besides fighting? Nothing. Nothing at all. Edmund frowned and clenched his hands into fists. His nails drew blood. He wasn't diplomatic enough to be an ambassador to Valaire. He wasn't brilliant enough to be the Spymaster. Maybe one day Edmund could be the King's Justice, but the man in that position wasn't particularly old. Edmund hated being useless and that was all he was as the second prince.
LIGHTY It was getting later with each passing minute and Edmund knew he'd have to return to the castle before dark. It was easily a two ride back and so Edmund started to get ready to return. At least he would miss the Valairean official's introductory meeting and more than likely Edmund would eat a quiet late dinner in the kitchens and then retire for the night. The middle prince was more relaxed now and he figured he'd cool off even more on the ride back to the castle. Maybe he'd stop in the marketplace to get a snack.
