LIGHTY Edmund led the way into the tavern with Nikela at his side. He located an empty table and headed over to claim it. Once both of them were seated Edmund asked, "Have you ever been here before?"
DAWNY Nikela glanced around the tavern. "Uuum, I don't think so. Not since I began my training, anyways. I haven't been most places since I began my training." Initiated of the temple ate and lived almost exclusively in their temples when they weren't out training. They didn't get to wander about, eating dinner with the prince.
LIGHTY "Well, the beef stew here is very good, the ale is halfway decent, and they make pretty good bread. The
DAWNY "Always a disappointment, the bad seafood," Nikela replied. "I suppose I'll have to settle and get the stew and some bread. They should really step up the seafood, they'll lose tons of customers over something like that."
LIGHTY "This place has been open for forever. I doubt it will ever close even if some customers do leave." Edmund waved a serving boy over to take their orders and ordered stew for both himself and Nikela with rolls on the side. The boy scampered off to get the food before Edmund could ask for drinks. "Um, alright then." Edmund said to the boy's disappearing figure. "Water would have been nice, but alright."
DAWNY Nikela smirked. "Maybe you scared him, being so tall and princely like you are. At least he took our order before leaving. Do you want me to try?" She used her gift to make an illusion about herself of one of the other priestess in her temple, a taller and more beautiful with full curves and thick, wavy brown hair. "If I ask nicely, he might give me a discount, what do you think?"
LIGHTY "But I'm sitting down!" Edmund protested. "How can I be tall when sitting down?" He eyed the illusion curiously. "I think his mouth would go dry, he'd nod like crazy, and he'd run to get our drinks and then run back and spill the water everywhere. Maybe he'd give a discount."
DAWNY Nikela dropped the illusion. "Well, if he'd spill the water everywhere, that's no good. I'm afraid that he won't give us the discount if I look like I'm supposed to, but I suppose that's the price for not being spilled on."
LIGHTY "Well, we can wait. I'm not in any rush at least. Is there a certain time you're to be back at the temple?" Edmund asked Nikela curiously.
DAWNY Nikela shrugged. "I don't have to stand duty tonight. They won't miss me too much if I'm not back in time to do cleaning. I've got time."

"The good thing," Edmund said, "about being the second prince, is that you aren't missed unless you skip a lesson or miss some important function. Then there's trouble. And I'm gone enough that no one bats an eye at me disappearing for hours on any given day."

"What sorts of things do second princes do?" Nikela asked. She had always imagines that they had all sorts of official jobs to do. Building roads and leading the army and commanding people and that sort of thing. She doubted it was as interesting as being a priestess.

"Not much. Feng does more, because he's to be king, and I just sort of... help. If needed. Which I'm not, usually, at least. I attend council meetings and talk about crops and people and buildings and if the sheep are sick, how much wool will be available to make into blankets for winter?" Edmund made a face at that. "And when I'm not doing something along those lines, I'm out riding Avlado or doing something with weapons. Hiding in the armory and counting swords and then sharpening them is much more entertaining than sheep."

Nikela nodded. "Naturally, anything to do with swords is more interesting than sheep. Although baby sheep can be very cute and I have never seen a cute baby sword. I can't imagine that the rest of that sounds much fun. I think I can completely understand why you would spend quite a lot of time out riding. But you know what you should really do?" She grinned. "You should become a priest. Very rewarding. You get a fox." At this mention, Trickster hopped onto Nik's lap and stuck hid head over the table.

"I have a baby sword. It's called a dagger." Edmund joked. "And it's very cute." He looked at the curious fox and smiled. "Nikela loves you very much, Sir Fox. I hope you know that." His eyes met Nikela's and then Edmund's smile was for her.

Nikela wrapped her arms around her fox and laid her cheek on top of his head. "Yeah. He loves me too, don'tcha?" She said, despite the fox's irritated expression. She looked up at Edmund sideways and she smiled back at him, ignoring the something little inside her that told her to stop.
